Understanding Your Salary Breakdown
Salary Components
- Basic Salary: The fixed portion of your salary (typically 40-50% of CTC). This is the base for calculating allowances and deductions.
- HRA (House Rent Allowance): A percentage of basic salary (typically 40-50% based on city). You can claim exemption up to the least of: actual HRA, rent paid minus 10% of salary, or exemption limit.
- Special Allowance: The remaining portion of CTC after basic and HRA. This is fully taxable.
- PF (Provident Fund): Employee contribution of 12% of basic salary, deducted from your salary. This is a retirement benefit.
- Professional Tax: A small tax deducted from salary (₹200/month in most states). Varies by state.
- Income Tax: Calculated based on your tax regime and applicable slabs for the financial year 2026.
Take-Home Salary: Your gross monthly salary minus all deductions (PF, Professional Tax, Income Tax, and other deductions).
