CAGR calculator

Estimate for planning only, not financial, investment or tax advice. Real rates, fees, taxes and returns differ and are not guaranteed. Verify the figures with your lender, bank or a licensed adviser before you decide.

How it works

CAGR is the single yearly rate that would take you from the start value to the end value if the growth were smooth.

CAGR = (End ÷ Start)1 ÷ years − 1
End = Start × (1 + CAGR)years
Years = ln(End ÷ Start) ÷ ln(1 + CAGR)

Real investments rise and fall. CAGR hides that and it also ignores money added or withdrawn in between, so use it for a lump sum held for a period, not for a SIP.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CAGR?

It depends on the asset and the time. Compare it with inflation and with the return you could have got from a safe option such as a fixed deposit.

Can CAGR be negative?

Yes. If the end value is lower than the start value the growth rate is negative.

Is anything sent anywhere?
