Accessibility statement
BeginThings is committed to making this site usable for everyone, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or who have low vision, color blindness, motor impairments, or cognitive differences.
Our conformance target
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across all of beginthings.com, including the shop, blog, free tools, and the 3D Workspace. Compliance is monitored continuously and re-tested on every major site update.
What we have built for accessibility
- Skip-to-content link on every page for keyboard users
- Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, main, nav, footer) for screen-reader navigation
- All images include alt text or are marked decorative with empty alt
- aria-label and aria-labelledby on icon buttons and form fields
- Color contrast checked against WCAG 2.2 AA minimum 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text
- prefers-reduced-motion respected — animations and parallax disabled when the OS setting is on
- Light + dark theme toggle (some users find light-on-dark less fatiguing, others find dark-on-light more legible)
- Keyboard navigation supported on all interactive elements with visible focus indicators
- Forms use native HTML labels associated with inputs
Known limitations we are working on
- The 3D Workspace at /workspace/ relies on WebGL and a mouse / trackpad to manipulate objects in 3D space. Screen-reader and full keyboard parity is not yet possible for spatial-canvas manipulation. We provide the 2D Free Tools as an accessible alternative for users who need traditional UI.
- Some free tools embed third-party libraries (Three.js, Chart.js) that may not perfectly conform to WCAG. We are auditing each tool and replacing or improving any that fail.
How to report an accessibility issue
If you encounter content or functionality that is not accessible to you, we want to know. Please email sourav@beginthings.com with:
- The URL of the page where you encountered the issue
- The assistive technology you were using (screen reader, voice control, etc.)
- A short description of what was difficult or impossible
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 2 business days and ship fixes within 14 days for blocking issues.
Compliance scope and legal frameworks
This statement is provided in alignment with:
- WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, W3C Recommendation, October 2023)
- European Accessibility Act (EAA), effective 28 June 2025 — applicable to commerce features offered to EU residents
- India Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) — for data-handling practices linked from this page
- Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act — for US government / federal-contractor visibility
Continuous improvement
Accessibility is not a checkbox we tick once. The site is regularly audited using automated tools (axe-core, Lighthouse), screen-reader testing (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS), and manual keyboard-only navigation. When we ship new pages, accessibility review is part of the deploy checklist.
