How to use this tool
- Enter the amount you want to convert.
- Choose the currency you are converting from and the one you are converting to.
- Type the exchange rate you were quoted, and a fee or margin if there is one.
- Read the amount you will receive, the effective rate and the reverse rate, then copy the result.
How it works
The converted amount is the amount times the rate. A fee or margin reduces what arrives. Dividing what you receive by what you sent gives the effective rate, which is the number that really matters when you compare transfer services.
Converted = amount × rate
Received = converted × (1 − fee ÷ 100)
Effective rate = received ÷ amount
Good to know
This converter deliberately does not fetch live rates. Rates change every second and different providers quote different ones, so a number from a free feed would look precise and still not match what your bank gives you. You enter the rate yourself and the tool does the arithmetic and shows the real cost of the fee.
To compare services, enter the same amount with each provider's rate and fee and compare the "You receive" line. Remember that some services show a fee separately and some hide it in the rate. The effective rate shows both.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I have to type the exchange rate?
So the tool works with no account, no tracking and no live data feed. You use the rate your own bank or app gave you.
Where do I find the rate?
Your bank, card provider or transfer app shows it. The mid-market rate is the one you see on search engines and is usually better than what you get.
What is the effective rate?
The amount you receive divided by the amount you sent. It includes any fee.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens in your browser.
