How it works
Every time you open a web page, your browser tells the site which browser and operating system it is, through the user agent string and newer client hints. This page reads that information, along with the screen size, the size of the window, the pixel ratio, your language and time zone, and a few settings such as dark mode and reduced motion, and shows them in plain words.
Browsers have been simplifying the user agent for privacy, so some details are approximate. Windows 10 and 11 report the same version, and macOS always reports 10.15. Where client hints are available, as in Chrome and Edge, the page asks the browser for the exact versions. Safari and Firefox do not share them.
Good to know
Screen size is shown in CSS pixels, the units web pages use, and the resolution in physical pixels, which is the CSS size times the pixel ratio. A phone with a 390 by 844 screen and a pixel ratio of 3 has 1170 by 2532 physical pixels. The viewport is the part of the window a page can use, which matters when you test a responsive layout.
Nothing on this page is sent or saved: the details are read and shown in your browser only. They are, however, the same details any website can read, and some sites combine them to recognise returning visitors. Browsers with tracking protection may report rounded or generic values on purpose.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say Windows 10 or 11?
Both versions send the same user agent. In Chrome and Edge, client hints tell them apart, so you will see the exact version there.
Is my information sent anywhere?
No. It is read and shown in your browser only, and it is not added to analytics.
Why is my screen resolution different from my monitor settings?
Web pages see CSS pixels. Multiply by the pixel ratio for physical pixels. Display scaling in your system settings changes the ratio.
Can a website see my exact device?
Usually only the browser, operating system and screen size. Device models are shared only on some Android browsers through client hints.
What is a user agent?
A short text that names your browser, its engine and your operating system, sent with every request a page makes.
