How to use this tool

  1. Choose an operation: Base64, URL, HTML entities, hex or a SHA hash.
  2. Paste your text and set any options you need.
  3. Read the result straight away and copy it.
  4. Use the hash output to compare files or passwords you already know.

How it works

Base64 turns bytes into plain letters and numbers so they can travel in text, such as in an email or a data URL. URL encoding replaces characters that are not allowed in a web address with percent codes. HTML entities let you show characters like < on a web page without the browser treating them as code.

All conversions work on UTF-8 bytes, so emoji and Hindi, Tamil or Bengali text are handled correctly. Hashes are one-way fingerprints: the same text always gives the same hash, and the hash cannot be turned back into the text. Do not rely on Base64 or hex to hide secrets, since anyone can decode them.

Good to know

Base64 turns binary data into text using 64 safe characters, which is how images are embedded in emails and tokens are sent in headers. URL encoding replaces unsafe characters such as spaces with percent codes. HTML encoding turns characters such as the less-than sign into entities so they display instead of being read as markup.

Hashes such as SHA-256 produce a fixed-length fingerprint of the input. The same text always gives the same hash, and you cannot reverse a hash to get the text back. Base64 is encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it. Never rely on it to protect secrets. Everything runs in your browser, so the text you enter is not uploaded.

Can I hash a file?

This tool hashes the text you paste. File hashing is not included.

Is my text uploaded?
