How it works
Spreadsheets, CSV and JSON are the three formats most business data moves in. This converter reads an Excel workbook (including older .xls and OpenDocument files), a CSV or TSV file with quoted fields and line breaks inside cells, or a JSON array, and writes any of the others. You can pick which sheet to export and see the first rows before you download.
CSV output includes a byte-order mark so Excel opens Unicode text such as Hindi correctly. Text that starts with =, +, - or @ can run as a formula when a CSV is opened in a spreadsheet, so the protect option adds a leading apostrophe to such text (real numbers are untouched). Dates from Excel are written in ISO format. Nothing is sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser.
Why choose the semicolon CSV?
Excel in many regions expects semicolons when the comma is used as a decimal mark. If your CSV opens as one column, try the semicolon version.
How big a file can I convert?
Up to 25 MB. Very large files may be slow on a phone.
Are formulas kept?
Formula results are exported as values.
