How it works

The calculator works out taxable income under each regime, applies the slabs, the section 87A rebate, any surcharge and 4% cess.

New regime (all ages): up to ₹4,00,000 nil; 4-8 lakh 5%; 8-12 lakh 10%; 12-16 lakh 15%; 16-20 lakh 20%; 20-24 lakh 25%; above 24 lakh 30%
New regime rebate: no tax up to ₹12,00,000 of taxable income, with marginal relief just above it
Old regime: up to ₹2,50,000 nil (₹3,00,000 age 60-79, ₹5,00,000 age 80+); then 5%, 20% above ₹5 lakh, 30% above ₹10 lakh; rebate up to ₹12,500 if taxable income is ₹5,00,000 or less
Surcharge above ₹50 lakh (capped at 25% in the new regime), then 4% cess on tax plus surcharge

Under the new regime a salaried person with taxable income up to ₹12 lakh pays no tax, which means salary up to about ₹12.75 lakh after the ₹75,000 standard deduction. The old regime can still win if you claim a lot of deductions and HRA.

Frequently asked questions

Which regime is better for me?

The one that shows the lower tax here. As a rule, the more deductions you have (80C, 80D, home loan interest, HRA), the more likely the old regime wins.

Are these the current rates?

They are the slabs published for FY 2026-27, which are unchanged from FY 2025-26. Rates are constants in one file so they can be updated quickly. Always confirm with a CA or the Income Tax department before filing.

Does it handle capital gains or business income?

No. Capital gains have special rates and business income has other rules. This is for salary and similar income.

Is my data stored?

No. It runs in your browser and nothing is sent.
