How to use this tool
- Choose a category such as length, weight, area, volume, temperature, speed, data, time or pressure.
- Enter the value and pick the unit you are converting from and to.
- Read the answer and the list showing the same value in every unit of the category.
- Copy the result you need.
How it works
Every unit is stored as a multiple of one base unit (metre, kilogram, square metre, litre and so on). To convert, the value is multiplied by the "from" factor and divided by the "to" factor. Temperature uses its own formulas because the scales do not share a zero.
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32
K = °C + 273.15
1 acre = 43,560 sq ft = 4,046.856 m²
1 guntha = 1,089 sq ft, 1 cent = 435.6 sq ft, 1 gaj (sq yd) = 9 sq ft
Good to know
The converter uses exact definitions, for example 1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 mile = 1.609344 km, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg and 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 litres. Temperature is converted with the correct offsets rather than a simple multiplier, so 0 °C is 32 °F and 273.15 K.
The area category includes land units used in South Asia, such as the acre, guntha, cent and kanal. Imperial and US customary units differ in places: a UK gallon is larger than a US gallon, and a long ton is not a short ton. Check which one your recipe, label or document means before you convert.
Frequently asked questions
Why are bigha and katha missing?
Their size changes from state to state, so any single number would be wrong for most people. Convert from the legal area on your land record instead.
Is a megabyte 1,000 or 1,024 kilobytes?
Both appear. Storage makers use 1,000 (MB), operating systems often show 1,024 (MiB). This tool lists both so you can compare.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No. It all runs in your browser.
