Local and Cloud Processing: Check Where Your Data Goes

Before pasting a document into an AI feature or browser tool, check where that feature processes it. A browser interface alone does not tell you whether the work happens on your device or on a remote service.
Look for a clear explanation of file processing, retention and any external services. Local processing and account-free access are separate properties; neither proves that a page makes no network requests.
What "local-first" actually means
Local processing means an operation runs on your device. A site may still load libraries, fonts or analytics, and a browser may retain local data. A Network-panel observation can help inspect a particular operation, but it does not prove all future behavior or rule out other ways data could leave the device.
Why it matters more in 2026
For a sensitive document, use the minimum information needed and follow your organisation’s rules. Check storage, synchronisation and deletion behavior as well as the processing location. A local tool can reduce file transfer without removing every privacy risk.
