How it works

Typing speed is measured in words per minute (WPM), where a "word" is five characters including spaces, so long and short words count fairly. Net WPM counts only the words you typed correctly. Raw WPM counts everything. Accuracy is the share of your key presses that matched the text.

To improve, slow down until accuracy is above 95%, then build speed. Look at the next word while you type the current one, and keep your eyes on the screen. Short daily sessions work better than one long one. The test stores nothing: your text, speed and score stay in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How is WPM calculated?

Correct characters, including spaces, divided by 5, divided by the minutes taken.

Why is my net speed lower than raw?

Words with a mistake are not counted in net speed. Fix the word before pressing space to count it.

Does it work for Hindi?

This version tests English text. You can paste your own text in any script, but speed is still measured at five characters a word.
