Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. It is free with no signup, no watermark and no usage limit.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The AI model runs inside your browser, so your audio never leaves your device.

Why is the first run slow?

The first time, your browser downloads the AI model from a public model host (Hugging Face via jsDelivr). After that it is cached and starts much faster.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, in a modern mobile browser, though large inputs run slower than on a laptop.

Getting a clean transcript

Speech recognition is only as good as the recording. A voice note from a quiet room transcribes far better than a call recorded on speaker in a busy office. If you can, record close to the microphone, keep one person talking at a time, and trim long silences before you upload.

Worked example

A freelancer records a 6-minute WhatsApp voice note from a client describing a logo brief. They export the note, transcribe it here, and copy the text into their project notes. Instead of replaying the note three times, they now have a searchable brief where they can highlight the colours, deadline and budget the client mentioned.

Indian accents and mixed languages

The model is trained mostly on English and copes with Indian English accents reasonably well. Hinglish, where Hindi and English mix in the same sentence, is harder: Hindi words may be spelt phonetically or guessed as English words. For fully Hindi or Tamil speech, expect to correct more of the text by hand. To type the corrections in Indian scripts, try the Indian language typing tool.

More questions

Can it transcribe a WhatsApp voice note?

Yes. Save or export the voice note to your device first, then choose it here. Most phones save WhatsApp notes as .opus or .ogg, which modern browsers can usually decode.

How accurate is it?

On clear, single-speaker English audio it is usually good enough to edit rather than retype. Background noise, crosstalk and heavy code-mixing lower accuracy.
