How to use this tool

  1. Type or paste your Markdown into the box, or edit the sample.
  2. Choose an HTML snippet or a full HTML page, and the options you need.
  3. Check the live preview below to see how it looks.
  4. Copy the HTML or download it as a file.

How it works

Markdown is a plain-text way of writing formatted text: a line starting with # becomes a heading, **two stars** make bold text and a dash starts a list item. The converter turns it into standard HTML with the open-source marked parser, then shows a preview cleaned by DOMPurify. Both libraries are served from this site, and conversion runs on your device.

GitHub Flavoured Markdown adds tables, task lists with [x], strikethrough with tildes and automatic links. With "Remove unsafe HTML" ticked, any script tags, event handlers or javascript: links in the Markdown are removed, which matters when you publish text written by someone else.

Good to know

Use the snippet output when you paste into a CMS, a blog editor or an email template that already has a page around it. Choose the full page when you want a standalone file that opens in any browser. The preview uses your site theme, so final fonts and colours will follow the styles of the page where you paste the HTML.

For privacy, images that point to other websites are not loaded in the preview unless you tick the option, because loading them would tell those sites your address. Links in the preview open in a new tab. Markdown differs slightly between apps, so check tables and nested lists once in the place where you publish.

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown does it support?

CommonMark plus GitHub Flavoured Markdown: tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code blocks and autolinks.

Is the HTML safe to publish?

With "Remove unsafe HTML" ticked, scripts, event handlers and javascript: links are stripped. Still review content from people you do not trust.

Why are my images not showing in the preview?

Images from other websites are not loaded by default, for privacy. Tick "Load images in the preview" to see them. The HTML output keeps them.

Can I convert HTML back to Markdown?

Not with this tool. It converts Markdown to HTML only.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
