How to use this tool
- Enter the price and the quantity of option A and option B.
- Add a third option if you are comparing three sizes.
- Keep the units the same, for example grams for all options, or convert first with the unit converter.
- Read which option costs least per unit and by how much the others cost more.
How it works
The unit price is the price divided by the quantity. The option with the lowest unit price gives you the most for your money. The calculator shows each unit price and the percentage extra you pay per unit for the other options.
Unit price = price ÷ quantity
Extra cost = (unit price ÷ lowest unit price − 1) × 100
Good to know
Bigger packs are not always cheaper. A promotional small pack can beat the family size, and a bulk buy only saves money if you use it before it spoils or expires. Check that the quantities use the same unit: 500 g against 1 kg means entering 500 and 1000, or 0.5 and 1.
For items sold by count, such as nappies or capsules, enter the number in each pack. For liquids use millilitres or litres consistently. Many shelf labels already show a unit price, but they sometimes use different units for different brands, which is exactly where this tool helps. The currency selector only changes the symbol and number format.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compare unit prices?
Divide each price by its quantity in the same unit. The lowest result is the cheapest per unit. This tool does the division and ranks the options.
Does the bigger pack always cost less per unit?
No. Always check. Promotions and different brands often make a smaller pack cheaper per unit.
Can I compare different units?
Convert them first so every option uses the same unit, for example grams or millilitres.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No. The comparison runs in your browser.
