1 MB is the most forgiving common limit. You meet it on court and tax filing portals, insurance claims, job applications that ask for a CV with certificates, and email systems that block large attachments. A phone scan of ten pages can easily be 15 MB, so even 1 MB needs real compression.
Because the budget is large, the tool keeps page resolution high and uses gentle image quality, so photos, stamps and signatures inside the document stay clear. If your PDF is mostly typed text and already small, it tells you rather than making it worse.
How to use it
- Choose your PDF. Drop the PDF into the box or tap to browse.
- Keep or change the target. The target is preset to 1 MB. Pick another limit if the form needs it.
- Download. When the size shows under your limit, download the new PDF.
1 MB and file types
- Scanned PDFs shrink the most, often 80–95 percent.
- Typed PDFs exported from Word are usually already small. If one is over 1 MB, it is probably due to embedded images.
- Presentations exported to PDF have big images and compress well.
Smaller targets
Need it smaller still? Try 500 KB, 200 KB or 100 KB. To shrink the photos before making a PDF, use compress image to 200 KB.
How the 1 MB target works
Text-only PDFs are already small, so most oversized PDFs are big because of scanned images. The tool opens your PDF with PDF.js, draws each page onto a canvas, and saves it as an optimised JPEG. It gives every page a share of the 1 MB budget, builds the new PDF with jsPDF, then measures the real file. If it is still over the limit it lowers the budget in proportion and tries again, up to five times. Page size and order stay exactly as in the original.
Troubleshooting
- Password-protected PDF? Remove the password first with Unlock in PDF tools (you need to know the password).
- Very long PDF on a phone? Large files use a lot of memory. Use a computer or split the PDF.
- Blurry result? Remove extra pages or choose a larger target if the form allows it.
- Portal says the file is damaged? Download again and make sure the name ends in .pdf with no spaces.
Common 1 MB limits
Typical places you meet a 1 MB cap include e-filing attachments, insurance and reimbursement claims, internship and job portals that accept a CV plus certificates, and older email systems. Because the budget is large, try 1 MB first. Only drop to 500 KB or lower if the form insists, since every step down trades away sharpness.
Private by design
There is no upload step and no account. The page loads the tool, and your browser does the work on your own device. That is why it is fast on good connections and still works if the network drops after the page has loaded. We don't see your files, photos, numbers or IDs, and we don't ask for your email.
