A 100 KB cap is common for scanned documents on scholarship, recruitment and state service portals: a caste certificate, a marksheet or an ID proof that must be uploaded as a single PDF. Scanner apps often produce 1 to 5 MB files, so you need a large reduction.
To reach 100 KB reliably the tool re-renders each page as an optimised image and rebuilds the PDF, tuning quality until the whole file fits. One or two scanned pages almost always fit with readable text; ten pages at 100 KB will be soft, so split long documents if the portal allows.
How to use it
- Choose your PDF. Drop the PDF into the box or tap to browse.
- Keep or change the target. The target is preset to 100 KB. Pick another limit if the form needs it.
- Download. When the size shows under your limit, download the new PDF.
Getting a readable 100 KB PDF
- Fewer pages, better quality. 100 KB shared by one page is far sharper than shared by eight. Remove blank or extra pages first with the PDF tools (Delete pages).
- Scan in black and white or greyscale if your scanner app allows; colour backgrounds waste bytes.
- Starting from photos? Use JPG to PDF under 100 KB to go straight from images to a small PDF.
What changes in the file
Pages become images inside the PDF, so text can no longer be selected or searched. That is fine for upload portals, which only display the document. Keep your original PDF for printing or editing.
How the 100 KB target works
Text-only PDFs are already small, so most oversized PDFs are big because of scanned images. The tool opens your PDF with PDF.js, draws each page onto a canvas, and saves it as an optimised JPEG. It gives every page a share of the 100 KB budget, builds the new PDF with jsPDF, then measures the real file. If it is still over the limit it lowers the budget in proportion and tries again, up to five times. Page size and order stay exactly as in the original.
Troubleshooting
- Password-protected PDF? Remove the password first with Unlock in PDF tools (you need to know the password).
- Very long PDF on a phone? Large files use a lot of memory. Use a computer or split the PDF.
- Blurry result? Remove extra pages or choose a larger target if the form allows it.
- Portal says the file is damaged? Download again and make sure the name ends in .pdf with no spaces.
Private by design
There is no upload step and no account. The page loads the tool, and your browser does the work on your own device. That is why it is fast on good connections and still works if the network drops after the page has loaded. We don't see your files, photos, numbers or IDs, and we don't ask for your email.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a PDF to 100 KB?
Drop the PDF above. Each page is optimised and the file is rebuilt until it is under 100 KB.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. PDF.js and jsPDF run in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
Why is the text not selectable after compression?
Pages are rebuilt as images to reach such a small size. Keep the original if you need selectable text.
My PDF has 15 pages and is still over 100 KB. What now?
Split it into parts with the PDF tools, or remove pages the portal does not need.
Is this free?
Yes, with no signup, watermark or daily limit.
