How static QR codes work

This generator creates static QR codes that encode the text or URL you enter. The code has no built-in expiry, but readability depends on size, contrast, print condition and the scanning device. A linked website, payment app or shortened URL must remain available for the destination to work.

Static codes and hosted redirects

Hosted redirect services can change where a QR code leads and may have subscriptions or availability limits. Check their terms before printing a code that depends on them.

A static code encodes the supplied text without adding a BeginThings redirect. If that text is a URL, its domain, redirects and destination remain outside the code itself and can change or stop working.

This tool exports the browser canvas as a fixed 200 × 200 pixel PNG. It has no size selector or SVG export. Enlarging that image does not add detail, so check whether it suits your intended use before printing.

Contrast, Quiet Zones & Error Correction Explained

Improve scan reliability with these design choices, then test the finished print on several devices and in the lighting where it will be used. No design guarantees every scan will succeed:

  1. Maintain High Contrast: Use a dark foreground against the white background and test your chosen color combination. Low contrast can make a code difficult to scan.
  2. Preserve the Quiet Zone: Leave a clear white margin around the code when placing the downloaded image in a document. Do not crop it or crowd it with text or graphics; test the final layout, including that surrounding margin.
  3. Reed-Solomon Error Correction: This generator uses the high error-correction setting. That does not guarantee a scan after damage or a logo overlay. Keep the code unobstructed and test the final output.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these generated QR codes ever expire or stop working?

The static code has no built-in expiry. Scanning still depends on readable print or pixels, contrast, size and device support. A URL destination or any redirect it uses can change, expire or become unavailable.

Can I use these QR codes for commercial products and mass printing?

You can encode text or links for your project. You are responsible for permission to use the supplied content and destination. The download is a fixed 200 × 200 pixel PNG; check its suitability and test the final output before printing.

Is any of my text, URL, or data uploaded to your servers?

The QR image is generated locally. When the entered text starts with http, the tool also sends that URL to TinyURL to request a separate shortened link. That online feature shares the URL with a third-party service; other text is not submitted to the shortener.

How can I make my QR code simpler and easier to scan?

Shorter text usually produces a less dense code. Use a concise URL you control, preserve contrast and margins, and test the result. This tool generates a separate TinyURL link for HTTP URLs; the displayed QR encodes the original input unless you replace it and generate again. A shortened destination also depends on its redirect service.

Can I create a QR code that initiates a UPI payment or WhatsApp message?

Yes. You can paste any standard URI scheme directly into the input field, including UPI links (e.g., upi://pay?pa=...) or WhatsApp click-to-chat links (https://wa.me/...). When scanned, compatible smartphones will automatically trigger the respective app.
